Dear Mr.

On behalf of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), we are writing to express our concern regarding the Polish Cultural Foundation in Clarke, New Jersey, hosting of Robert Winnicki tomorrow evening at 7pm. Specifically, we wish to flag Mr. Winnicki’s disturbing record of anti-Semitic and far-right views and statements.

The ADL is the leading anti-hate organization in the country. Founded in 1913 to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and secure justice and fair treatment to all, ADL leads the fight against all forms of bigotry by exposing hate groups, training law enforcement, developing anti-bias education programs for students, countering cyber-hate and promoting civil rights. It is in the context of our longstanding work against anti-Semitism and extremism that we are reaching out to you today.

Mr. Winnicki has a record of making statements that run counter to fostering positive relations between the Jewish and Polish communities. For example, at a demonstration in front of the U.S. Embassy in April 2018, to protest restitution to Holocaust victims, Mr. Winnicki said that “the goal was to protest ‘against extortion of money and Polish national assets…The Jews will not get a penny from us.” Earlier that year, he said that “We must have tools to prosecute the liars, to punish the liars, for the Polish State cannot be left defenseless against the Israeli, Jewish smears,” in reference to opposition to Holocaust legislation passed by the Polish government. He was also one of the initiators of several far-right demonstrations that included anti-Semitic and racist undertones, including Marsz Niepodleglosci (Independence March) in November 2018, which was the largest far-right gathering in Europe and included neo-Nazis from across the continent.

This is only a partial list of problematic statements and initiatives by Mr. Winnicki. We understand that several members of the Polish Cultural Foundation have expressed their concerns regarding this event and we hope this background information is helpful to you and your colleagues.
